Mila’s Journey
Mila’s story is one of resilience and enduring love. Found as a puppy in a remote area of Azerbaijan, injured from being hit by a car, she was taken in by our organization, BARS. Her leg was broken, and local vets advised leaving it as it was. Despite having a leg that couldn’t function, Mila carried on and spent years in the shelter.
Her story changed when BARS had the opportunity to bring her to Europe. Leyla, the founder of BARS, flew with Mila to Amsterdam, marking the start of her new life. Helena and her mother became Mila’s first foster family in the Netherlands, lovingly caring for her, covering the costs of her surgery to remove the damaged leg, and supporting her through her recovery.
After her time with Helena, Mila had her first adoption attempt, but it didn’t go through. She was then fostered by Adriana and Kyle, a wonderful couple who gave her love and care. During this time, a second adoption was arranged, but it didn’t work out, as the family felt uncertain because she didn’t interact with their child as they had hoped, despite Mila showing no signs of aggression.
Following this, Leyla took Mila in again to support her through a second surgery due to an incomplete sterilization in Azerbaijan. Mila recovered with grace under Leyla’s care, once more demonstrating her resilient spirit.
Mila then went to Marjory and Leandro, another wonderful couple who fostered her with all the love and care she deserved. Finally, in April 2023, Mila’s story reached a beautiful conclusion when Marieke and Farah met her and instantly fell in love. It was a perfect match. Mila now enjoys life to the fullest, traveling, making new friends, and being adored by her forever family.
Mila’s journey proves that even the hardest roads can lead to happiness with persistence and love. Mila is truly a wonderful dog who brought good people together, and we all connected because of our love for her. We even have a WhatsApp group called “The Mila Lovers,” which keeps us all connected and sharing in her happiness.
Thanks to everyone who cared for her along the way, Mila is now living her best life.
